Swordsworn Custodian
Game Description
Swordsworn Custodian is a 3D collection game where you play as a custodian tasked to clean up weapons scattered around forts.
Core Mechanics
- Quest: In each level, the king will request a set of weapons to be cleaned up. There are three weapon types scattered around the level which are collected on overlap: red shields, blue shields, and swords.
- Jump: To navigate the entire level and reach the pickups, the players will have to utilize the jump mechanic. While holding the jump input, the player’s y-position will continue to increase until they reach the maximum jump height or until the jump button is released.
Secondary Mechanics
- Checkpoints: Leaving the castle by jumping off the walls is very dangerous. Blue flags are scattered around the levels. If the player walks near one of these it will automatically be set as the current checkpoint. When the player falls off the map when they jump off the walls, they will respawn at their last visited checkpoint. If the player has not visited any checkpoints, they will respawn at their start location.
- Run: Holding the run input will triple the player’s speed. This will allow the players to traverse the levels at a faster pace.
Gameplay Loop
The king NPC in the level will give the player a quest to clean up a set of weapons around the map. The player cannot leave the level unless they complete this quest. Some weapons will be hidden and some be in areas accessible only by jumping. Once the player has collected all of the requested weapons, they can return to the king and he will open the fort gate. Walking out of the gate will teleport the player to the next level.
Input
A diagram of the player movement input is shown in Figure 1. It contains the following keyboard inputs:
- W: move forward
- S: move backwards
- A: rotate left
- D: rotate right
- SPACEBAR: jump
- SHIFT: run
- E: interact
